Updated: Jan 11, 2025
Hey guys, its Amber again.Yesterday we all went to see a show at starfighters arcade with the bands isitworthwritingaletter, linus, ample, and upnow. A few of the bands were touring and they were pretty good, but I was definately there for Upnow. They did great as usual, I think they are honestly one of the coolest bands in the Phoenix scene right now, I really like their sound. They make very good very unique music that pulls a lot from emo, but they have a pretty wide range sonically. Id reccomend that you check out their new-ish self titled EP.
As far as the venue goes, I think the return of starfighters arcade is going to be great for the DIY scene out here. I went to a lot of shows there when they were hosted behind the arcade, but now that they've come back with an indoor stage i think ill be both playing and attending lots of shows there. The fact that the arcade is on with free plays on all the machines is really fun as well. Im glad I was able to check out the first show with their new stage. As far as the games go, some of my favorite cabinets were marble madness, x men children of the atom, DDR, robocop pinball, darkstalkers, and the uncanny x men pinball machine.
I figured since I was already writing today I would tell yall about the music Ive been listening to lately. Recently Ive finding a lot of good artists. A while ago Jaden showed me this super underrated band called My Spacecoaster and ive been really loving them. Great 2nd wave emo that I think more people should listen to. Check out the song "Try to Escape" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZlWqf75mKE) I also have been really enjoying the band "Bygones" wich includes Zach Hill from death grips, hella, and others and Nick Reinhart from Tera Melos. The album "By-" is really good punk-y math rock "Click On That - Smash The Plastic Death (https://youtu.be/waVxTL_d1gI?si=khLmSUPnYWmdVk0L).
For the last 3 years I have been making a new spotify playlist every month and filling it with songs I was really enjoying at the time, so if you want to check it out heres the one Im working on for this month.
